I once talked to a gay Indonesian tourist couple visiting China. They told me Indonesia is actually the worlds most populous Muslim nation. While general rhetoric was not as intense as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan or Afghanistan, some radicals still existed there

Some in every society - no matter where - are able to be influenced by the radical Islamic ideology. Indonesia is not so happy that it has produced some of the really bad guys... but so it has been. it was Indonesians after the Jihad in Afghanistan against the Soviets - that returned and set up JI.... and then its successors.
