PO2 Robert M. I did my honeymoon in Hawaii.

For the sixth time, Hawaii was named the happiest state in the country, according to a Gallup poll.
Alaska was ranked the second-happiest state in the country for the third consecutive year, and Colorado was ranked in the top 10 happiest states for the ninth year in a row—the only other state besides Hawaii to do so.

West Virginia and Kentucky, for the eighth year in a row, were named the two unhappiest states.

I spent 3 years in Hawaii with My parents when My Dad was in the U.S. Navy and stationed there in the early 1950s at Pearl Harbor NS. Later in life I spent another 3 years there when i was stationed at Hickham AFB, HI Myself, in the early 1970s A total of 6 years in Hawaii wasn't bad at all as a kid or as an adult.

Alaska, because of the short days during winter have a high rate of seasonal affective disorder and suicide along with alcoholism. Alaska has 3rd highest suicide rate. Alcoholism rates in Alaska are higher than the national average. It is estimated about 10% of Alaskans suffer seasonal affective disorder compared to 1% of people closer to the equator. I think there may be a problem with how this survey is conducted. I am also aware Hawaii has a bad homeless problem

Hawaii has a high rate f poverty due to low wages. 60% of jobs pay less than $15 to $20/ hour, half of what is required to live in Hawaii. 15,000 people are homeless and 1,200 are chronically homeless. An acquaintance moved to Hawaii because her husband was reassigned there. She commented on the homeless camps. The homeless would crowd into an empty parking lot and live there until authorities would clear the lot, then they would move to another area.
