Very interesting read and all valid points and questions for any parent. It is not as if we (DOD) have not concealed the facts and have made things more than actually were in the past. All parents and families should be able to get the answers they desire and need.

Not every parent can get the unvarnished truth about their son's death. Sometimes there are classified elements that cannot be disclosed. These days we tend to give out a lot more than we used to give out. Ryan Owen was a SEAL, he didn't end up there by accident, he wanted to be on the tip of the spear and he knew the risks and accepted them. That doesn't mean that we should not make reasonable efforts in planning to minimize casualties but you cannot plant perfectly safe missions. You cannot accept a zero casualty approach or you would almost never launch a raid.
His father should not politicize his son's death. No one is hiding behind his death. I understand he is hurting from the loss but he needs to remember his son's oath and his willingness to accept the risks that go with being a SEAL.

I'll say the same thing here that I said when this topic was first posted by someone else some 5 hours before this one:
I sympathize with William (Bill) Owens but think he is looking for someone to blame for his son's death ... when there isn't anyone, least of all Trump. As I recall and as stated in the article:
"Owens and his SEAL commandos set out in the dark of night. Planning for the Yemen raid began last year during the Obama administration, but the execution was tabled because it was decided it would be better to launch the operation on a moonless night, which wouldn’t occur until after President Trump took office Jan. 20."
This wasn't a hastily thought out and poorly planned mission and it didn't originate in the Trump administration. Trump approved it, for sure, but it wasn't some politically motivated, pull-it-out-of-your-ass at the last minute mission as some media and politicians are attempting to portray it.
May Ryan Owen rest in peace ... and may his father and family find comfort in their faith, friends, memories, and the appreciation of all Americans for the service and sacrifice of their loved one.

Things do go bad and things go wrong, but this went bad very quickly. Was it rethought before going, who knows. Looking at objectively for lessons cannot hurt. It could have very well happened, but being covert who knows!

MSgt Michael Bischoff - I wholeheartedly agree that "looking at [it] objectively" for lessons cannot hurt. The key word is "objectively" and it is that that has been missing from most of the reporting and commenting I've seen. "Objectively" is not bashing Trump.
