That was a bad situation that should have never happened, but I keep wondering what took place before they got to that point.

We just viewed and had a discussion on this event at the Texas motorcycle Safety coalition meeting yesterday.
Bottom line up front, though the rider did not instigate the encounter (he was merged into his lane before this vid clip starts) He did continue the bad encounter and was the proximate cause of the crash. Had the rider been the "bigger" person he could have avoided aggravating a human mistake that initially resulted in just hurt feelings into a crash that took out an innocent bystander (75 year old man in the truck that was not part of the initial bike vs car encounter)

Who started it ... I don't know. But the Rider was wrong for continuing it and the Driver of the car is wrong for attempting to murder the rider. Now people are in the hospital, property is destroyed and for what.... a pissing contest? People need to have respect for one another.

From what I understand the car was “playing chicken” with the biker while trying to illegally enter the HOV lane. That’s why the guys in the trailing car started recording. Aren’t there designated entry/exit points in California for traveling in the HOV lane? A few years ago, a Goldwing rider was killed on I-635 in Dallas when a solo driver decided he didn’t want to put up with bumper-to-bumper traffic and illegally crossed the double yellow line into the HOV lane. The Goldwing rider was forced into the concrete barrier. It’s a dangerous world out there.
