My first thought was about climbing Mount Everest PO3 Steven Sherrill and then I realized you were talking about a High Point pistol :-)

I got one as part of a hog sale. Guy asked me if I liked guns, duh? Then proceeds to convince my wife that I had agreed to take a pistol as part of the cost of a hog. She calls me saying that that she would only give him $75 for the gun. You guessed it, a Hi-Point C9, and he tells me that it tends to not want to feed right, after the paperwork for the hogs is complete (Registered Pigs)! To make a long story, short, I cleaned the gun, and threw it in the truck where it has lived for the last 3 years. Performs flawlessly with any ammo I feed it and is pretty accurate for an ugly, plastic brick! would I go out of my way to purchase one? No, but they do work and are tuff!

I'd choose the Canik over a High-point every time. Priced in the mid $300s, is a much better value in my opinion.
