North Korea Rails Against New Sanctions. Whether They Will Work Is Unclear.

As a person that studied DPRK sanctions in the past, this new round will have the same effects as the old ones for three reasons: 1) These sanctions will have little effect on the upper echelon in North Korea's regime but will affect the people, just as they always have. 2) North Korea is one of the largest recipients and participants in Black Market activities and 3) Most importantly, the only reason any of this is happening at all is because South Korea is hosting the 2018 Winter Games. North Korea engaged in the same saber-rattling tactics, albeit not as aggressively, when China hosted the 2008 Summer Games

If sanctions won't work: Why bother with them? Basically what you're saying is that all policy against they the last 50 years was wrong.

If they still get what they have always gotten in spite of these sanctions, then yeah. Keep in mind, North Korea didn't get their nuclear capabilities or missile technology from under a rock, did they?

SSG Michael Hartsfield - My understanding is they get pretty much all of their stuff through the Black Market. If we can dry that up they don't have any choice but to come to the table, or starve.
