I grew up watching his movies with Dean Martin, and his cartoons created later.

Jerry Lewis had a special link with my country, Chile. Jerry Lewis was a closer friend of Mario Kretuzberger (aka "Don Francisco" Sabado Gigante). In 1972 this chilean TV host made a "coverage" in to a disabled institution called "Sociedad pro ayuda al niño discapacitado" ("Disabled Child's Society) in his show "Sabados Gigantes".

After the coverage, Don Francisco was shocked by what he saw there and tried to find a way to help this institution because their efforts to reach more disabled kids and adults were too expensive and limitated to cover it. So he took the "Telethon" idea from Jerry Lewis and adapted it into Chilean reality. in december 1978, the 1st Teleton was a total success for our country, collecting $1million USD and create the new disabled child's center here in Santiago de Chile.

Actually the Chilean Teleton (with this name we know about the institution) is the biggest event in the entire country, joining us in just one goal: rehabilitation and inclusion of disabled childs and adults. There 13 institutions actually on the entire country and there's 1 more under construction. All of this wouldn't be possible without the Jerry's Telethon idea.
