I think the art of INTELLIGENT disagreement coincides with the two-fold rise of "deconstructionism" and "situational ethics" or "ethical relativism"

If you have no common perspective, there is no possibility of agreement, or even acceptance of another viewpoint.

Thanks Maj William W. 'Bill' Price for sharing an intriguing article. We each have two ears and one mouth. It would be wonderful if we could each listen without chomping at the bit to retort to what we think the other person was going to say.

Dr Richard Rogers once opined that we needed to learn the art of creative argument. The ground rule (singular) was simple. You had to first listen and prove you had listened to the opposing point of view by restating that point of view in your own words until the opposition party agreed that you were stating their POV correctly. Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it? It is. That's why few practice it. Laziness. One of the principle objectives of education in those halcyon days of yesteryear, was to challenge students. To make them work at thinking. To learn how to think. Sadly, the progressive Left which has come to dominate American education fear individual thinking. They are using academia to indoctrinate. Don't think, believe what I tell you to believe. And when you disagree with someone's belief's, you are in for a fight.
