First of all this report is factually incorrect and proven by the very pictures and film that they present. This is the type of reporting that causes otherwise reputable news sources to be perpetrators of fake news.
First of all the Australians did not hand over 51,000 illegal firearms. What they did do is turn- in to their government unregistered or unwanted firearms either for destruction, to sell or to register. This is what the Australian Minister of Justice said in a press release; "...anyone with unwanted and unregistered firearms or firearm-related items can legally dispose of or register them at approved drop-off points in each state and territory."
So my question to the 'talking head' both the reporters doing the report and the reporter interviewed, how many of those guns were unwanted firearms compared to illegal firearms, and how many were turned in so that they could be properly registered?
All this is - a BS report trying to show the world that the US is bad and everyone else is willing to go along with the program.

So, SSG Robert Webster... what is the *non-fake* number of firearms turned in?

Capt Dwayne Conyers - That I do not know. However just from the press release information and the pictures of the guns shown, there were a fairly significant number that would not be 'illegal' and what is there to say that a number of these firearms were unwanted compared to illegal.

Now on the other hand, if the report had been made like the one in The Guardian then I would not have made the statement that I did since it is well balanced and written without letting gun control hysteria cloud the information. All the Reuters report and others like it turn from being 'news' to 'propaganda' because of this bias that is apparent to some and not apparent to others.

Australia's firearms amnesty collects more than 50,000 guns
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/oct/06/australias-firearms-amnesty-collects-more-than-50000-guns

Or we could point out a news report that has more detailed information and avoids making a direct claim of illegality, in which the statement is - "University of Sydney emeritus professor Simon Chapman, ...said he suspected many of the guns surrendered in 2017 should have been surrendered 20 years ago." See this linked article from (where else) The Guardian:
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/oct/04/30000-guns-handed-in-during-australias-second-firearm-amnesty

These two articles are actually 'news' and quite informative and do not make 'wild' or 'inaccurate' claims.

Capt Dwayne Conyers - One additional comment - I did not say the number of firearms turned in was a 'fake' number; what I stated was that they were not 'ALL ILLEGAL.'
Read the statement again - First of all the Australians did not hand over 51,000 illegal firearms.
Then read the following sentence again - What they did do is turn- in to their government unregistered or unwanted firearms either for destruction, to sell or to register.

What I did say and imply is that the NEWS REPORT is FALSE and therefore turns the report into 'fake news.' Why, because it is not accurate or correct and it was DELIBRILATELY reported that way. That makes it PROPAGANDA.

And by the way none of the reports (that I have read or seen) stated or reported on the number of firearms that were registered during this period.

And it is really bad reporting when a 'news agency' relies on a report from a competitor as their source of information, which is what the reporter from Time, Inc. did and probably others.

I see revolvers, semi-automatic pistols, break-action shotguns, bolt-action rifles, and a lot of junk. This is what they call "illegal firearms." So either Australia has slid quite a way down the slippery slope, or Reuters is completely full of sh*t. Neither would surprise me.
