While they look sharp, we don't need another uniform, the blue's are rarely worn as is. Mainly because I'm cheap and don't want to pay for another suit sitting in my closet only to be worn twice in my career. We're about 12 years too late for this conversation.

I served my entire career wearing ugly uniforms and now the Army considers bringing back pinks and greens after I retire!

Looks nice indeed. They need to promote it as optional wear more as people are complaining about it.
They tend to forget that we once had a time where blues were optional except for officers and recruiters and we received stipends for those at OCS/WOCS as well as at recruiting duty.
We also have the mess uniforms as optional wear, too.

CW5 (Join to see), the Army used to have a boat load of dress uniforms! We had dress greens and dress blues. We had the khaki (cotton or TW) Class Bs, and before then, a dress khaki uniform. Only recently did the Army white uniform disappear. It looked just like dress greens, but it was solid white. It was a beautiful uniform.
As you mentioned, the Army still has blue and white mess uniforms. These are worn with a black tie, traditional turn down collar and a black cummerbund. However, each of these uniforms can also be worn as a blue or white evening mess uniform that corresponds to civilian white tie and tails. One simply wears a white winged collar shirt with a white tie and a white waistcoat.
An officer needing all those uniforms could go broke getting outfitted at Marlow White or some other civilian tailor specializing in Army military dress uniforms!

You're correct, Sir. I saw white dress mess last year and half the attendees to balls now days seem to have the dress mess. If the Army deems me fit for CW5, I will be able to afford a set myself!

CW5 (Join to see), I can't tell you how many dining ins, dining outs and military balls I've attended since I was commissioned on 16JUN73. I still go to one or two military balls each year.
Never in all that time did I ever see any officer wear a cape. Shown is the Army blue cape with frog.
Depending upon branch, some of the capes could be quite stunning, as the lining is the branch color (or the primary color for those branches with two colors).
