Any time some makes a deal with North Korea, it is not long before they break the deal. The only hope for North Korea is removal of Kim, his family, and the top officials. Otherwise the cycle will continue.

This is true. Cutting him off and flooding the people with enough information to encourage dissent may be a better option than dropping bombs. It's probably cheaper too.

Long-term, it's the decision that will harm fewer people.

Kim Jong Un will never be starved out. That's the problem with people like him. Enough of the top people and the military get sufficient provisions that they never will be in danger of starving, and as they have shown, they are perfectly willing to let millions of their own people starve as long as they can stay in power.

I don't think the odds of that are in our favor.

Blowing him to bits is much more likely to happen than putting him in prison. Unless the Chinese decide that regime change it the best option for them -- if that decision is made, Kim Jong Un could indeed possibly end up in prison.
