Well PO1 Tony Holland I have to disagree with you on this point. There is no right to military service and their should be no quotas based on sexual preference or on perceptions that birth gender is a mistake to be corrected.

1LT Sandy Annala - I expect from your comment you don't have significant experience with TRADOC or USAREC and the accessions quota system.
All accessions are scrutinized to ensure the mix has the diversity of the season.
1. When I was accepted into USMA, West Point there was a push to get qualified women to apply to the serve academies and pressure to ensure that sufficient graduated [in our class which was the first to included women as cadets less than 50% graduated while the overall graduation rate was better than 60%. Our first captain was black and he earned that privilege and honor and is now General Vincent Brooks]
a. Training standards were adopted for women cadets to ensure they could physically compete. This was art and science and was a work in progress. The women in my class suffered more than in following classes as guinea pigs tend to. [I am friends with most of my women classmates and some who didn't graduate.]
2. In my years at Fort Benning in TRADOC first as Company Commander and later as chief of the scheduling branch for USAITC I saw how tightly the powers that be watch accessions and graduation rates.
a. I had the distinction of the highest number of separations as an infantry training company commander which drew the attention of the Deputy Commander of TRADOC. I kept great records and I did not have any prejudice which ensured I was not disciplined. I was even awarded an impact AAM later by TRADOC.
b. As chief scheduling branch I oversaw all training requirements and the Army Training Requirements and Resources System (ATRRS)which is used to program soldiers for recruiting, training start, etc. The expectation of attrition in training means that a number higher that authorized fro service strength needs to be recruited.
c. In my day there was pressure to ensure sufficient National Guard soldiers graduated in the split cycle program [soldiers trainees enter for BCT between Junior and Senior year at High School and finish the next year.] 17 year old soldier trainees had challenges.
4. There has been a lot of pressure to ensure some women made it through infantry training to graduate and be fully qualified as infantry soldiers. Command emphasis ensures scrutiny on any actions that result in non-completion of cycle for whatever is being command-emphasized.

What Quotas are you talking about LTC Ford? there is no need for quotas at unless the services decide there need to be, and there is no sane reason why they would do so.

1stSgt Nelson Kerr - how much experience do you have in accessions management and oversight for your service?
I had a decade in the Army and worked at Army Staff and OSD level. Quotas exist whenever there is national and/or command focus to achieve desired ends.
1. This happened when there was a stated desire to expand the range of jobs for women across the military services
2. This happened to a different degree in efforts to expand acceptance of LGBTQ across DoD and the Services. In this case command emphasis played out more in policy and funding. Those who opposed the LGBTQ goals of the previous administration were in an number of cases forced to retire or resigned. That type of quota goal is more in reverse in that its goal is to minimize opposition across the service leadership.

So we do not treat people fairly because you are afraid of what some fools MIGHT do. Would not getting rid of the fools be a better option?

In order to successfully volunteer, one must meet the mental and physical standards in order to serve in our volunteer force. With that being said I I have asthma or diabetes, which both can be successfully managed, why can I serve? Oh yeah, there are medical standards. So why is this so difficult for a segment of the population with 46% suicide rate (https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/AFSP-Williams-Suicide-Report-Final.pdf) to understand that the military may be apprehensive about allowing certain population demographics from serving.."The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."
