Considering over half of the US households own a weapon- tying that to the American spirit to throw the middle finger at authority- there would have been many more "Wolverine" units out there. Check out state militia type, veterans, etc... many more casualties to the invader. I would venture a guess and the arsenals hid in private citizens would rival much of the modern weaponry of an invader.

Admiral Yamamoto of WWII Japanese claim, allegedly was against invading the U.S. because of all the weapons in citizen's hands. He said something along the lines of they would face a rifle at every doorstep, or words to that effect.

SMSgt Thor Merich - It has been debated if Yamamoto actually said this, but the quote is attributed to him. It's true either way; "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass."

Capt. Marty Hogan, I believe that as long as we can protect our Second Amendment, then we will possess, nationwide, an arsenal that will rival nearly any invader with "boots on our ground". Our citizens or citizen militias will lack air-power and mechanized armor but any invader with boots on our ground will face an awesome resistance. Thanks for the mention.

I'm still trying to wrap my arms around speaking Russian with a Texan accent, but seriously it would have ended same way as the movie. Soviets could never have logistically supported an invasion over such a distance. A few paratroopers may have made some gains with the assist of nuke strikes, but then what?

Yep especially given the fact that the Soviets had a food and economic crisis not a good time to go to war when your people are starving at home.

Yes that's correct that's was one of the biggest discredittors of the movie some audiences used to say how realistic it was but it never was possible.
