Effective diplomacy requires carrot and stick. I think we stopped using stick after Reagan.

How are we ever going to get them to like US if we don't give them stuff, arms, money, presents? It seemed to work well for US when Obama was knee-walking around the WH before our many friends..

I think we're past "liking" with many that have been screwing us for years, and the next option is for them to fear or at least respect us. Not exactly diplomacy but in tough times you resort to tough measures. It's a gamble as to whether it escalates, but unless the nuke jar is unscrewed I think we can handle all comers without destroying the planet. Unless it becomes US vs. the World and that would likely not end well. Lots of big mushroom clouds.
