What is the point! The AR 15 is not a powerful weapon. It is ok for hunting up to deer. It doesn’t destroy the animal. Pure BS article. Why do people buy and own anything? Status, style, pleasure. There is a large industry involving marketing and branding involved in this. A short article won’t nearly cover it.

I agree with the idea of your post, but we shouldn't brush off the AR15 as if its incapable of doing very real damage to the human body.

SPC David Willis - I don’t dismiss that it will damage the body. It is a small caliber round . It is flat shooting. The weapon doesn’t have much recoil. The weapon itself is fairly light and the ammo for it is small and lightweight. All those factors make it a good weapon for soldiers, especially if you have to haul ammo. It is not a macho super weapon in the pantheon of ballistics. I have mostly hunted with a 30-06. Shot a deer once that moved forward as I shot. Bullet went through the lung cavity, and tore open the abdominal cavity. Tracked the deer for a couple of hundred yards before it quite moving. We found parts of the deer along the way. That was 165 gr bullet factory load. I doubt you would get that out of a .223 or a 7.65x39.

LTC David Brown - Why wound an animal with the 5.56. Kill it outright with an appropriate cartridge for that size of game.
