"Become addicted to constant and never ending self improvement. " ~Anthony J. D'Angelo
Small steps in a positive direction will get you where you want to go. You are only in control of your own attitude, make it positive and it will be a better day and effort than it would have been otherwise.

Good morning my friend COL Mikel J. Burroughs and thank you for an interesting title "Make Yourself Better!" That reminded me of makeover day which is a pampering experience generally focused on the external body of a recipient of a makeover :-)
On the other hand, do-over is a second chance at performing a task.

We can attempt to better ourselves through training and experience. That has long been one of the side benefits of military service - being trained to perform tasks and missions and gaining experience in the process.

Thankfully those of us who have a personal relationship with God through the atonment of the Christ are being perfected by God HIMSELF as he sanctifies each iof us.

Most of your quotes are from prominent authors today:

1. Best-selling author of Christian fiction Frank Edward Peretti did yeoman's work in leading many out of this present darkness :-) "Don't worry about getting perfect, just keep getting better."

2. American writer and Nobel Prize laureate William Cuthbert Faulkner offers typically sage advice "Do not bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself."

3. English novelist and philosopher, Aldous Leonard Huxley conjures up a Brave New World "There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self."

4. Chinese teacher, editor, politician, and philosopher of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history Confucius was typically inscrutable "The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence."

5. French psychologist and pharmacist Émile Coué de la Châtaigneraie was a perennial optimist "Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better."

6. Ancient Chinese philosopher and writer Laozi also known as Lao-Tzu offers typically pithy sounding advice that is much easier to say than to do. "Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step."

Not so sure about this advice. Reminds me of my father's admonition to children that "You should always act one year older than you are." (Don't ask me. I never figured it out) Fundamentally, he was saying that there is something wrong with you. Fix it. Compare that to Fred Rogers who said, at least once on every episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, I like you just the way you are. Well, I like all of you just the way you are (unless, of course, you're a Leftist Progressive)

Liking someone doesn't mean that he or she can't be a better person, or learn new things or improve your performance.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Absolutely correct. Making yourself better is internal. Liking is external. (But I still don't like Progressives)

Nor do I CPT Jack Durish No interest in improving themselves while telling everyone else how they should do better.
