Wow, talk about taking two unrelated statistics and linking them to disingenuously advance your agenda. How bout we discuss that the school shootings (horrible, yes) are only a fraction of those teens killed texting while driving. That’s “against the law” everywhere. How about driving impaired in general? Why no nationwide kids march against that? Because that’s something they WANT to do. It’d be easier to take a Marine’s rifle than a teen’s cell phone.

MSgt George Cater That crack about a Marine's rifle had me on the floor! I have seen students who would rather be suspended than hand over a phone!

Well, duh. Military bases have armed security personnel, and in deployed areas, service members are armed. Since we made schools "gun free zones," that's been where most of the mass shootings have occurred.

Capt Gregory Prickett During My Time "Way Back When During the Great War" Getting "Your Weapon" or even One You Were Assigned out of the Armory was Pain in the Ass and or a Nightmare, Administratively and or for every other Reason. The Only Time and I Repeat Only Time I had Ready Access to a Weapon on the SAT (Yes I was on the Security Alert Team at NSGD Sugar Grove, WV, USS California CGN-36 and USS Arkansas CGN-41) was during a Security Alert and then they handed them out like Candy. Other than the POOW (Petty Officer of the Watch) No One was Armed Regularly. Every School these days with a SRO (School Resource Officer) is Initially Armed at the Same Level We Were. I Know that isn't always the Case but that is My Experience.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - That's not the case on Army or Air Force bases, and never has been. I've noticed on Naval bases that there isn't the same level of concern. Hell, at one NAS I was at, the SCPO over the mess hall tried to tell my armed SPs that they couldn't eat while armed (the MCPO who was an MA straighten him out for me).

Capt Gregory Prickett If it Wasn't Required as Part of My Billet I would never have qualified with the Weapons I did and the Range Masters (Usually a Bad Tempered 1st Class Gunners Mate of Chief Gunners Mate) Made the Qualification Process such a Nightmare it Made getting a Root Canal seem like a Fun Experience. I Hate the Smell of Cordite, I Hate Loud Noises, Unfortunately I was Very Good with every tool they issued me. Needless to Say I was #2 Man on the SAT More Often than I Liked.

Capt Gregory Prickett It is very simple logic. If I am intent on causing harm, I am going to find the softest target available. I am not going to try walking into a police building and shooting the place up, odds are good I am not going to achieve the goal. I am not even going to go to a Mall, as that is an unknown. People may or may not be carrying. No if I am intent on causing max harm with min resistance, I am going to look for a gun free zone, and minimal security. That being said, these mass killers are starting to evolve. Starting to use other weapons in crowded areas again where they can cause a panic before they are stopped. Moving vans come to mind. Sadly you get a pedestrian bridge with a moving truck, those people have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.
