The name change doesn't have a thing to do with us. It has everything to do with sending a message to China. We're now embarking on our "Drumbeat" presence. China has embarked on a risky "Squatter's Rights" plan. If you don't challenge it, then it will later on become the new normal. Frustrating as China is missing an opportunity to be a team player in keeping the sea lanes collectively safe. Their long term goal is more area of absolute control. Too bad a more rewarding goal of preeminence in world peace and rights isn't in the mix.

Why? How do we become inclusive of the Atlantic, Arctic, and South Ocean? I'm just thinking of all the re-branding this will require... Seems like a waste to me.

Maj Kevin "Mac" McLaughlin - Thanks. Other than a VIP visit, I never got that close to the flagpole. Pres. Reagan visited Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune after Beirut and we fell in for that. He used to ride his horse near Camp Barrett and FBI Academy in 80/81, and we waited as a reactionary force with a Mech .50 and small arms. We were never called on. Plenty of Secret Service and Feds, not exactly a soft target aboard Quantico. I stood in his Military Cordon for Inauguration Parade also, again lots of guys with earpieces, helos, snipers. We were just for show. Military accoutrements.
