If I had to venture to guess, I'd say that Iran and Pakistan are two big players. Maybe China, although they have more to lose than gain by helping them since they've reaped a lot of benefits from our interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm sure that there are a lot of private funds being used too that come from the fat cats in the Middle East.

Although conquering armies killed millions of Afghans, it did not stop the Afghans from fighting. Much like Vietnam, we could not solve the military problem nor defeat ideology.

Coalition leaders lost a lot when Ahmad Shah Massoud who was assassinated by the Taliban.
He was an Afghan politician and military commander. He was a powerful guerilla commander during the resistance against the Soviet occupation between 1979 and 1989. In the 1990s he led the government's military wing against rival militias and, after the Taliban takeover, was the leading opposition commander against their regime who he fought against until his assassination in 2001.
