This isn't one presidents mess...this goes back several administrations that have turned blind eyes to it and swept it under the rug. OK send the dang kids with them...just send them...key word ILLEGAL...if they bring their kids with them then send them all packing...together. We (the USA) have and are spending billions and billions on health care, housing, and education for ILLEGALs and we have veterans who are homeless, kids of disabled veterans who can't afford higher education, veterans who can't get quality medical care, and veterans who can't get help with mental issues...we have elderly on fixed incomes who are eating cat food and are splitting their pills to make them go further or working as a busboy at McDonalds for medicine money at the age of 80+. The money spent on these could go a long way on solving our permanent LEGAL citizens homeless and hunger issues. I am all for people coming to America for a better life...hell, that is what we were founded on BUT just do it legally.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth Enforcing laws on the books is fine, the problem is how these laws are being enforced. Zero tolerance and separating families is pure Trump and not how America should be.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - The law is the law and every president prior to now has spoken hard on immigration and not forced a change in law. Now Trump is holding people to the letter of the law and it is a problem. If it isn't the way America should be then congress needs to change the dang laws they enacted or better yet, shouldn't have made them so strict. Upholding the law is what he said he was going to do and he is doing it.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth Again, the law doesn't say anything about how it gets enforced, and the how is the issue with Trumps enforcement.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - When a law is put into play, the expectation is that it is enforced how it is written and anyone before Trump that enforced it different that how it is written is wrong.

Who is separating the children from their parents over the past years when the tens of thousands of unaccompanied were sent on trains? The Trump Administration? I think not.

Capt Gregory Prickett Absolutely agree, if those being deported with no choice to take their children them. They ARE being held due to some legal issue. If they bring these family members through legal access points, 23 or so as I recall, they are not separated, if validated they are refugees.

MCPO Roger Collins - that used to be what happened, until the new policy by Trump. Now those who properly go to a port of entry with their family, present themselves and request asylum are being separated from their children.

That, BTW, is the issue I'm up in arms about. I don't have a problem with separating the children from those being charged criminally. Children don't belong is jail cells, and separation is appropriate, although it would be nice if ICE would actually follow the consent decree (it's not).

It is entirely inappropriate to separate families where the parents have followed the law to request asylum.

I think you need to do some research before you spout off about a policy that has existed through 3 administrations until President Trump stopped it and do you realize these people are with children that don't belong to them. Ever heard of child trafficking????

These people are criminals and children are not put into adult jails for obvious reasons.

If the parents are illegal then send them back with their kids. Our kids can't do anything without prental consent like take an aspirin at school etc so why do we keep the kids. If the parents are illegals then the kids are also. Send them back and if they want to come to America then do it legally...it will take time but if you are determined then you can make it work. I don't want to have to take care of children without their parents, that is a parents job so deport them all...at least they are together.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - If that is what is needed. I still envision an America that will shelter and protect those seeking asylum and refuge from war and violence. Maybe I am just old fashion, but the words of the New Colossus still inspire thoughts of what America aspires to be.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - If they come across legallyand seek asylum then yes...just not illegally. When they comeillegally all they are doingis feeding the human trafficking trade and become mules that "owe" their deliverers something. When they come illegally they get work where they are paid under the table because they can't get a real job and pay into the system they are taking from. If they are here legally with a green card they can work and take care of their family and pay taxes like the rest of us.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - Fine and dandy, though one side of the political aisle has made it their business to convince people that they are all "illegal", especially if they have a brown skin tone (don't see this level of concern on the northern border). Of course these are the same people who advocate for torture and have no problem sucking up to the likes of Duterte, Xi, and Kim Jong Un, while turning a blind eye to Russian cyber operations and attacks on our country and democratic institutions.

That said, even if they do come illegally with their children, keep them together for processing and deportment.
