On June 25, 1876, in the Battle of the Little Bighorn, the US 7th Cavalry under Brevet Major General George Armstrong Custer was wiped out by Sioux and Cheyenne warriors. Custer and several other members of his family perished with him at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, most of them on Last Stand Hill. They included his brother Boston Custer, nephew Harry Armstrong "Autie" Reed, brother Thomas "Tom" Ward Custer, and brother-in-law James "Jimmi" Calhoun.
