The man is an extraordinary writer and historian as well. I just finished his ‘World Crisis’ series (5 volumes) and am working through the ‘Second World War’ series (6 volumes)...

Very well written with personal anecdotes about events he witnessed. Between the two series’ he covers the events in Europe from about 1912 in the buildup to WWI through the War and its aftermath. The he picks up in the 1920’s through the rise of Hitler & the Axis powers on through the War and it’s aftermath.

Excellent author! If you have a year or so on your hands, and have an interest in 20th Century Europe (and the Wars), then you *REALLY* should read these histories.

I have the "Second World War" 6 book set. It is an incredible read. The second book is centered around the time that the recent movie was made about Churchill (Darkest Hour). I wasn't crazy about the portrayal of Churchill in the movie having read the books and read his words and explored his thoughts etc.

He was a great leader, clinging to hope and the US jumping in to the war.

Churchill was definitely underappreciated, certainly at the beginning. He was a man with a vision and courage who kept the country together

I was referring to his WWII situation and not anything else. He like a lot of other leaders did some things I truly dislike but everyone who remained in Europe would be a German speaker now if not for his actions, imo.
