The news analysts so far seem to have a 50 50 split on will this help US to retain jobs. But I like the limitation on foreign made parts in vehicles manufactured for sale here.

Sort of see the logic in that, manufacturing of those parts would have to return to the US, but is the public ready for the cost of that? Auto companies moved parts manufacturing to Mexico and Canada to cut costs, will the public buy cars that cost more because parts are made in US?

Very good questions Sir, I think what they are hoping for is some of those parts manufacturer's may return to US soil. But you are correct prices will go up.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen - You are right. The increased costs will be passed down to the consumers. How it will play out depends on how much manufacturers increase costs when there are no external competition.

MAJ Ken Landgren I just don't see how they can not pass those costs along. Kind of shocked when I went back and looked at car prices. My very first new car was a 1968 GTO and it was loaded, sticker was $4,375.00. Granted everything has increased in price, but at some point people are going to say $20,000.00 plus for a run of the mill vehicle is just too much.

I'm still trying to figure out why it's so important to have the deal done before Mexico's new elected president takes office? After all, Trump bragged about how well they get along so you'd think the new guy would sign off on the revised trade deal as well. Unless the WH has reason to believe differently. Now they're saying this deal could be dead if Canada doesn't get on board....irony.
