Well the details of what federal officials were demanding as terms that come with the federal grant are a tad disconcerting where one can see why many residents didn't agree with the terms. It was tad excessive.

Tad excessive seems to pretty well describe our immigration policy these days.

Tad excessive in this county means that their traffic stops "along the border" were targeting PoC. DWI/DWH was a huge target, it was unwarranted and it created pretextual traffic stops. Our community spoke up and spoke out. None of this increased sheriff activity actually improved the safety issues for the residents. Several Pima County residents who live in rural Pima County still had slow response time issues when calls regarding crime were reported. A recent study also had backed up that complaint. That has been an issue for a long time out here.
Add to this mix that the Pima County Sheriff's Office has been found to have misused RICO funds for years on things that were not approved under RICO law, thus tax payers are subjected to repay the RICO funds. Then the new sheriff doesn't tell anyone that he has already used funds from a grant not yet approved by the local government.

Patricia Overmeyer Yes thank you. I was trying not to be so direct about it. I’ve had my share of bogus traffic stops with the intent to harass among other things like them hoping they’ll smell pot or find an outstanding warrant. Yes I’m glad the people in that county recognized the inherent dangers of what the federal agencies were about to implement.

MAJ James Woods - It was a combination of the inherent dangers that the federal agencies wanted, with the wasted RICO money that taxpayers have to repay, along with the fact that most of the rural county residents weren't seeing a decrease in crime or a decrease in response time. All of which had been promised to them.
