Whether Trump is for or against it, doesn't matter.
It is unknown what PR citizens are inclined to do, so far they have voted a number of times to reject statehood

Puerto Rico's Referendum Won't Grant It Statehood
The territory’s recent vote in favor of becoming a state faces long odds in Congress.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - Prior to and at the time of the vote, the effort was said to draw a low voter turnout and not necessarily reflecting the will of the majority of voters.
The residents, from what I observed, enjoyed it's status (plus not having to pay Federal taxes).
Personally, I have been to PR a couple of times to work there. I loved the Island and the citizens.
Due to the recent catastrophe (Hurricane Maria), there may be a change in PR voters attitudes. On the flip side, PR has suffered numerous hurricanes, corruption, poor infrastructure, low income/high unemployment, and more before this.

Seems they are taking lessons from the rest of the US.

Wonder why this hasn’t happened over the past presidents, Democrat and Rebublican? Oh yeah, it wasn’t important until we had President Trump to blame. Obama didn’t have it on his priority list for eight years.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - There may be more to Trump's stance on the Puerto Rico's leaders than just his political whims, perhaps, just maybe it's due to her complete incompetence as a leader and in no way should PR become a state when they continuously elect such corrupt and inefficient leaders.
I'm all for PR becoming a state but they have some significant issues least of which are financial.

MAJ (Join to see) Thing is, it's the Mayor of a city .. not the Governor of the non-state... How far down does it go? City board? School board?

Lt Col Charlie Brown Why do you think that? Also, should it play any role at all in their decision?

MAJ Bryan Zeski - why should it? All of our Presidents are transient. Statehood is permanent. Other than pot stirring why should it matter.
