As you may know I'm a volunteer on the Battleship Iowa as well as maintaining a membership in the museum.
The Iowa is the only Battleship museum on the West Coast and the largest Military-themed museum in the Los Angeles area.
In addition to our primary purpose to educate younger generations about the history of the ship and the men who served aboard her, being that Los Angeles does not have any significant military presence (there is an Air Force Base but it's not large and is mostly staffed by civilian analysts) the Iowa also often plays host to military ceremonies for personnel in the Los Angeles area for events such as retirements, commissioning and memorials. Often we host these events for no charge.
As a 501c3 non-profit that receives no government funding the ship relies entirely on donations and from revenue from ticket sales and museum memberships.
The organization is facing a significant revenue shortfall this year and have launched fundraising drive. The fall and winter months are the "slow season" for visitors and the leanest time of the year for us.
If you support the ships mission please consider making a donation.
Thank you
