Interesting history share. Simcoe's Queen's Rangers (1st American Regiment) is the oldest unit in the Canadian Army, now existing as a militia regiment. The thing I remember about Rogers' Rangers in the French and Indian War (1755-63) is that every time Rogers took his Rangers out on an expedition and came in contact with the French and Indians, he always brought back a lot fewer men than he took out. But Rogers' ideas about the ranging service were interesting, for while he believed his men should be competent frontier fighters, he also believed they should have "regular" discipline and be able to take their place in the firing line when called upon to do so. It is too bad Rogers' life ended on such a sour note. Had he successfully taken the American side in the War of Independence, he would have been an asset in places like Kentucky.

Funny I'd heard bits and pieces about this unit from my days in Michigan UP and New Hampshire, but this is the first I've seen a detailed account of them. Guessing that in the tv show 'Washington's Spys' the Queens Rangers were based on this unit.
