I am not trying to steal your thunder. I see the evolution of our air power from superiority, strategic bombing, and air to ground attacks. What better air craft do we have to conduct air to ground attacks than the A-10? The advent of air to ground attacks in WWII was definitely a turning moment for us.

Not to confuse the issue, but when you can carry 80 Mk-82, 500lb bombs on a B-52 you don't need to generate as many sorties as a Marine Air Wing.

Well, could say they're Marines so need extra flying time in order to get it. But Lt Col Charlie Brown has it right and the article kind of provides the answer as well. Compared to the Air Force, Marine aviators are few in number but are deployed to combat AOs much more often so ya, they get more flying time. Think the article would be more meaningful if it compared flying hours between Air Force and Marine flying in the same AO.
