Thank you my friend PO1 William "Chip" Nagel for posting The long echo of WW2 trauma.
By the way, when I was stationed in Bamberg, Germany during the COL War [1981-1984] I had an a apartment in Kemmern, West Germany. The landlord was a WWII German veteran who fought in Russia.
He invited me to watch The Longest Day in 1982 [i believe] after it had been translated into German.
I went downstairs into his home in the winter and he warmed the beer to room temperature before it was fit to drink :-)
It was very interesting to listen to John Wayne, Richard Burton, Peter Lankford, Sean Connery, Red Buttons, Rod Steiger, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum and all the rest "speaking" German. :-)
By the way my British parents began the war in London as teenagers. My mother was evacuated with her sisters to the Hatchlands Estate while my father stayed in London and went to the equivalent of high school.
