Having worked for Boeing in the 80's, I think there should have been more quality control on the program along with testing to make sure the parts and software functioned properly after being installed and before the plane was sold to the customer. I found that out when the Air Force rejected some parts that were not up to specs. due to a welding shop that delayed some spot welding that was supposed to be done within 72 hours after the parts were cleaned. I had to do an order to find out which shop was guilty and work with an engineering group to have the parts reworked.
