One of my concerns is robots are expensive to make and will partake in chaotic environments.

Those are valid thoughts, certainly...I'd expect the whole autonomous vehicle thing would need seriously advanced software for such vehicles, by contrast with cars and/or trucks, which I'm assuming would essentially be used to supplant tanks, to try to minimize risks to human crews, obv...I could certainly envision them being developed, as ground equivs of UAVs, I mean, I'd expect also a close air support UAV could also be done as well, I'd expect that's likely already been thought of, certainly...though, I'd also think UAV software might be able to be altered to control a ground vehicle akin to a tank or other similar piece, I'd think the problems, though I can certainly envision the distinctions involved, shouldn't necessarily be insurmountable, I'd expect, in terms of algorithm conversion and/or adaptation...I'd also expect, as with UAVs, that they'd be done using a neurl-network approach, as well....

Capt Daniel Goodman - When the Germans decided to go with the most sophisticated tank, production dropped, and it was afflicted by technical problems. The Russians built thousands of T-34s and the Americans made thousands of Shermans. Both were reliable, easy to make.
