Ultimately, I wouldn't have as big a problem with the tariffs if it was just presented honestly and directly. As for the retaliatory tariffs... China is not near as concerned about the pain to their people if they do not buy our products. They also know administrations change every 4 to 8 years and are willing to wait it out. I am sure they have read their Sun Tzu.

And this too...

As usual, Shep is mostly wrong. First, not everything coming from China is being tariffed second, not all tariffs are ultimately passed on to the end customer. Some are absorbed by the manufacturer, importers and distributors. China, being a special case, they manipulate their currency and reduce the impact of tariffs too. It is not as linear as the simple minded Smith likes to try to portray.

The nice thing about the left is they offer no solution for China and their trade policies and intellectual property theft. You can disagree with Trump but he is taking one of the biggest trade cheats on the planet to the mat. He wants to protect US companies and jobs, ensure trade is FAIR and protect intellectual property. The Chinese cheat and steal regularly. What is dear Shep's solution? Seemingly to do nothing.

I am fully invested in the markets and I get what is happening. We are taking some of this on the chin but a better trade deal with China will benefit me, my kids, our country. Allowing the status quo to prevail is not acceptable, even Chuck Schumer agrees with Trump on his tactics with China.

The markets will come back after tariff announcements, they have each time over the last 2 years. When we get a final, better trade deal with China the markets will soar. The Chinese play the long game. They see the political turmoil here and think if they stall and Trump loses they might get an easier go of it (think what that says about the democrats on trade). If they stall and Trump wins he will likely crush them over their stalling, procrastination and game playing, which he should.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - It wasn't financial advice Steve. Which part are you actually disputing or is this just more of your elementary school ranting.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Yes Greg, I deal with tariffs, importing and exporting from Asia to the US, US to Europe, US to Canada etc. regularly. I fully understand how they work. You don't understand how the manipulate their economy and currency. Sheppard Smith is factually incorrect. That is the point I was making.

Cpl Jeff N. - You are certainly correct. It wasn't financial advice... or insight... or consideration... or due diligence... or anything of the like. Just the rambling narrative of a person trying desperately to rationalize and justify their obvious mistakes and carry the water for a person and a party that doesn't care about you a whit. It is like you are in an abusive relationship and keep making excuses for all your bruises. I have no doubt your self respect went out the window a long time ago, evidenced primarily by how you desperately try to hide who you are.

With $550 Billion in Chinese goods under tariff, not much of an exaggeration for Shep to say "everything". Name something from China not currently under tariff. One thing...

Would love to see what documentation or information you have that supports "not all tariffs are ultimately passed on to the end customer". So, what... only 97%? By all means, support this claim.

You have a lot of gall calling anyone "simple minded", Slappy.

"Fully invested in the markets".... what, with your 401K from Delta? Living high on the hog on your hedge fund are you?

A better trade deal would benefit the country. Going about it in this fashion shows a phenomenal misunderstanding of trade policy, and how the Chinese operate in general. Trump is out of his depth regardless of what he tells you and who he claims is "begging" him to make a deal. He [Trump] made this about him. It has nothing to do with the country.

No real need to dispute your pontification and speculation that the markets will "come back". I do enjoy your speculation on what the Chinese are seeing and thinking. Tell me, how do you know the Chinese mind so well?

Cpl Jeff N. - Actually, I know that the Chinese manipulate their economy, but that still doesn't change who is paying the tariff, and it's not the shipping nation. It's the consumers in the receiving nation.
