CPL Dave Hoover, I saw the Carpenters perform live on the Auburn University (AL) campus on 16NOV71. Back then, I thought I was a photographer and had an okay 35mm single lens reflex camera. I guess I looked official because the ushers allowed me to go down in front of the stage and take photos to my heart's content! The photos were lost over the years. I wish I still had them.
I was really upset when Karen died. I had no idea that she suffered from an eating disorder.

I was surprised too, they keep it well hidden. Tragic. But you have a cherished memory brother. LTC Stephen C.

My parents gave me tickets to a Carpenters concert for my 16th birthday after I had been listening to them for 2-3 yrs. Seeing them live was fantastic! I really loved Karen! She was very shy but had this fabulous voice and sound and Richard was incredible whether writing their songs, playing the piano or using a synthesizer. He actually is credited with a lot of firsts if you are a music lover when it comes to combining rhythms, and use use of synthesizers.

Thanks for your great Carpenter Story! Karen had such a great voice and Richard really wrote amazing songs and arranging! They were really World Class! Karen died way too soon when eating disorders weren’t well known and highly stigmatized. I still play all their albums now in CD form. My biggest regret is not keeping their albums.

My wife sang all of their songs, she said she and Karen had the exact same range.

It rained most of the day here killing most of what was left of last week's six inches. Changed over to heavy wet snow and now we've got a fresh inch of the white stuff with snow still falling. . . .
