Glad to hear, I served with a Samoan in the 82nd ABN at Fort Bragg in 1972. Tobin told me that he was told if he served in the Army for 4 years he could be a US citizen when he got out.
Tobin also told me that he was deported back to Samoa from California twice, before joining the Army.
He became the boxing champion of the unit, and got his private pilot flying license at Bragg. Tobin's goal was to get his commercial pilot license, and work for an airlines company.
Also, Tobin wore around the barracks his Lavalava, a man's Samoan men's skirt, and no one would dare tease Tobin about it.
I lost contact with Tobin when I got shipped to the DMZ in Korea, one year later I looked for him at our old unit 2nd 508th Inf 82nd Div, but couldn't locate him. Looked all over the internet for him but with no results.
I just hope that, "Tobin" somewhere is out there "Flying High", and as a US citizen.

Landrew Usoalii S. - Don't know what ever happened to Tobin, thanks for asking. The one thing Tobin hated was going out to the field, that's why he became a boxer for the unit, if you were the unit boxer, you didn't have to go to the field. He said, boxing was so easy, all you have to do is hit the other guy, and he fell down. Lol
Tobin was his nick name, his real name is, Muegle D. Tobiki.
