This past Veteran's Day, former Oklahoma Congressman Dan Boren and I noted in an op-ed that appeared in The Oklahoman how much attention has continually been placed on the backlog and wait times for Veterans seeking Department of Veterans Administration care, without recognition that the VA cannot and should not be expected to care for Veterans alone. We all have a calling to serve those who have served us and to serve one another.

I dedicate all of my research on combat trauma to all who serve and have served; and i provide free clinical consultation to them as well. They appear to be quite comfortable opening up to me, especially when they discover I am a former medic and now clinical psychologist. For the most part they do not share intimate material w/ anyone else. This is the reason I prefer group therapy as it recapitulates the intimate psychosocial unit: the squad. Internalizing all this trauma is actually destructive.
