I was involved in several Reforgers when I was stationed in Germany. We were much better prepared than those who came for the exercises.

I was in REFORGER 77, from Ft. Carson (4th ID). Most thought of this as just another field exercise, with a chance to see some of Europe. I did think it went well though. But, not being a grunt, I may have been wrong.

I did 3 Reforgers, 81', 82' and 83'. I was stationed in Wertheim, just west of Wurzburg. As a driver in an Ammo Platoon I had my USAREUR drivers license I got to support all of them in some fashion. One of the highlights of my military career was watching the 82nd Airborne parachute in some vacant field.
Reforgers were a blast, almost everybody liked them. When they were over, all involved partied like it was their last day on earth.
Years later we learned about Able Archer - held immediately after Reforger 83', and just how close we all came to WW III.
Good times, I miss those days.
