When moving to different duty locations in the military to transitioning from the military, there is a process for doing so to ensure that the service member is ready to leave the current and arrive at the new duty station and or home. This process of out and in processing has been a continued work in progress and got better over time in my 21 years. To assist the Veteran with the transition from service member to civilian, maybe the Departments of Defense and Veteran Affairs should create an office for this same type of out-processing for service members who are transitioning. As soon as the service member clears their medical and dental, they can be sent to a doctor for a physical in the same day, at the same location to begin their disability compensation physical. Before they are completely out of service, they should have their percentage in hand. As with evaluations and awards, Service Members should not be authorized to leave their current duty station without copies of their medical and dental records. Here the problem lies within the Department of Defense because they behave as your records are not your own and that they are there to keep them secure, even though there have been more cases of lost records within the DoD than I can count.
