Sunday's Topic: "The Psychological Benefits of Film!"
Film as a psychological tool can be used for different purposes. Film can be an enormously effective complement to therapy, due to various factors:
Intensity: Stories, characters, and scenarios are squeezed into a short amount of time.
Duration: The length of a film is equivalent to a long therapy session.
Learning: Films are allegorical like stories and fables. You can take advantage of the cognitive effects of watching films to formulate theories about learning, creativity, etc., and to promote the idea of multiple intelligences.
Identification: Many of us have felt identified with movie characters. This information can be discussed further in therapy.
Attention: The visual impact of film promotes concentration on the images.
Social features: Watching and talking about a film with other people multiplies its value and serves as an integrative tool in therapy.
Chris will share and discuss the benefits of film therapy.

It's definitely an escape from reality. I also like watching documentaries for historical facts. I am like a kid at a candy store in regards to military history. It gives me more comprehension of the big and little picture, like why were the Mongols successful invading Russia even in the winter? They were largely successful because each Mongol had around 4 horses so they were part of the logistics for supply. In addition, the horses knew how to break the ice to reach fodder.
Why were so many of our bombers shot down in Europe?
Why were our Shermans inferior to German tanks?
What did the P-51 achieve?
Why was Patton's army so quick to maneuver hundreds of miles in a few days?
What were the tactical advantage the Romans had over the Greeks?

1SG Walter Craig - The Afghans were slaughtered by Alexander the Great, Mongols, and Russians; but they found ways to come back. I agree with you. Afghanistan is unwinnable.

Yes and no. I take a lot of sleep meds and want to feel really tired so I can sleep right away. If you have Netflix and you might even find it on YouTube. Ken Burns does documentaries on WWII, Vietnam, The West, Roosevelt’s, and civil war. If you are a history buff you will like his documentaries because he goes into such exquisite details. He discusses the strategic, operational, and tactical aspects. He makes you feel that you are on the ground experiencing what he describes. SSG Gregg Mourizen
