Lynch mobs are always possible... Robespierre was able to perpetuate the reign of terror because he was able to use attrition to over power the law by force.. Police can't do thier job if they are too busy being dead.. However the analogy was weird because Robespierre was a political and clerical figure before being oustered in the thermodorian reaction... "On 6 April 1793 the National Convention established the Committee of Public Safety, which gradually became the de facto war-time government of France.[34] The Committee oversaw the Reign of Terror. "During the Reign of Terror, at least 300,000 suspects were arrested; 17,000 were officially executed, and perhaps 10,000 died in prison or without trial."" Essentially the reign of terror was a series of summary executions by the committee of public safety... the exact opposite of the situation today.... The reign of terror is a government crushing a rebellion through genocide. because after the revolution the revolutionaries must be purged by the new government because people that know how to overthrow the previous government can overthrow the new one
