A few thoughts:
- US bombers in the Pacific required naval victories and successful amphibious landings to facilitate airfields bombers could fly from.
- German V-2 rockets were fired at England. They caused extensive damage. However, the English were aghast at fire bombings in Germany. The fire bombings in Germany were so intense that the fires often created its own super heated weather patterns that nobody could escape. Sometimes people were melted into puddles of fat and charred bodies accumulated in the open. It was so violently hot that some underground bunkers did not protect the occupants.
- The US lost many bombers in Europe due to an errant doctrine that bombers did not need fighter escorts.
