Great article, and a very valid one for today's Christian community.

I love and respect my older relatives. They've endured everything from WWII and Vietnam, to the Civil Rights Movement. They've lived, learned, and laid the groundwork for my generation's current successes. I definitely do NOT agree with the whole, "OK Boomer" mentality.

That said-I am often very surprised at how readily many of these parents, grandparents, mentors, and community/church leaders believe that our nation has always been a "bastion" of Christian principle. Historically, yes... we've been predominantly "Christian" as a society. However, most of the ideologies that steered our Revolution were in fact, Humanist. Our Civil War was born not of religious fervor... but the out-and-out refusal to peacefully settle issues that, had we been following Biblical doctrine... should never have arisen. We are, and have been the world's leading proponent of "consumerism", vanity, pride, and dare I say it... immoral living. Far from the "New Jerusalem"... we much more closely resemble a "New Babylon".

All of that aside, the truly important fact is that we have enjoyed greater religious freedom here than in much of the world. THAT is what matters, and why things like the Constitution are so important.

I believe part of the confusion comes from fear. We are afraid we're going to become targets. We fear persecution; official or unofficial. We worry about our careers, finances, and security. We want a "champion" in the ring... someone with worldly power who can "protect" us.

We've kinda forgotten who our real "King" is... and that's disconcerting.

The world wants leaders to give them the things they want. We live in the world, but are not of the world. I vote to protect the earthly "rights" I already have... I vote against the policies that would result in our silence.

I for one have never forgotten, nor will I ever forget that Yeshua is my Lord and Savior. He defeated death and the devil. He will be coming back to rule and every knee will bow.

No but it could prevent us slipping further away from God.
