It was interesting to see warfare evolve. Large formations attacked each other. In the Civil War we started to see defensive positions and the side maneuvering for an attack faced the military problem of weapons touching them much further out than they could maneuver safely. WWI was a defensive struggle. The tank was the invention due to the mother of necessity. The Germans were so prepared for WWII because the military conducted a huge AAR after WWI. What was planned. What really happened. How to shrink that delta. Blitzkrieg was born which used a combined arms doctrine and the Germans had the requisite technology to pursue that end.
