Pardons are always controversial for one side. Nature of the beast for every President that ever served. The only difference the last 8 years or so is we have people who want to persecute people even after they aren’t serving anymore to try to make political points. MHO

Pardons shouldn’t be controversial. Should be indisputable and defensible or justifiable by either side. Especially when it comes to pardoning war criminals. Both sides could agree with commutations that allow the felony record of their crime stay in place but a pardon...yeah there’s good reason for controversy.
