Interesting. Only 11 Republicans think it's bad to encourage the killing other members of Congress. How low has that party sunk?

SFC Chuck Martinez - in my opinion there should be no conflict. BTW Prickett is no slouch when it comes to the Bible. He is very knowledgeable, saying that is was a devout Christian but after reading the Bible numerous times, he now rejects Christianity. I really don’t know if that is what he truly believes or that he is provoking folks to read their Bibles by disagreeing with Christian posts on RP.

PO1 H Gene Lawrence - It doesn't matter which was written first, Hindu's Rig Veda predates all of them. In any event, I didn't swear an oath to protect or follow the Ten Commandments, I swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution.

SFC Chuck Martinez - OK, lets look at the Ten Commandments vs the Constitution. First, we need to decide which set of Ten Commandments in the Bible we are using, because there are three sets. And of the three sets, the only one that is actually called the Ten Commandments in the Bible is nothing like the ten that you cite. But we'll use the version that you cite, which appears to the the Roman Church's version.

1. The 1st Commandment is in direct contradiction to the First Amendment. Freedom of religion, or no religion, is part of our Constitution. BTW, "In God we Trust" is not in the Constitution, the only references to religion in the Constitution is in Art. VI, Cl. 3 (no religious tests) and the First Amend. (freedom of religion, establishment and exercise of).

2. The 2d Commandment also at odds with the First Amendment, as it prohibits speech on the basis of its content. That's the amendment that protects my right to use your god's (or anyone's god), in vain.

3. The same with the 3d Commandment. Which "holy day" do we protect? Friday? Saturday? Sunday? I'll point out that SCOTUS has struck down every law that is based on this commandment unless there were valid secular reasons for the law.

4. Not all parents should be honored. That's why courts will terminate the rights of some parents, and protect children from those people.

5. Thou shalt not kill (or murder, depending on the interpretation). OK, this is the first one we can say is useful, but murder is typically a state, not federal crime. That's why Oswald was charged under the Texas murder statute, not a federal one.

6. Adultery is not a crime, nor against civil law in many states. It may be grounds for divorce, but that doesn't make it illegal.

7. OK, theft is a crime. Congratulations, you have finally found one that is applicable.

8. And bearing false witness is a second one that is applicable.

9. Now we get into mere thought crimes. Coveting your neighbor's wife. It's a violation just to think that she's hot as hell. We don't punish thought crimes in the United States.

10. Ditto as for coveting his property, hell, isn't that the basis of capitalistic society? Wanting as much or more as the Jones? And this is also a thought crime, as actually stealing stuff was covered under number seven.

You have to make sure your brain is in gear, before your mouth is in motion, the consequences could/might be severe!
