When I first joined The American Legion, there were two posts in Chesterfield; one was for Blacks and one was for whites. When the posts came together, it was definitely a benefit. Ours was dying completely out, except that we integrated and combined.

That is hard to believe in our lifetime, but I know things like that are true. Here in Springfield, MO, we still have the Black high school, it is now a part of Ozark Technical College. Being a northerner, it bothered me they left it standing, but it is a good solid building, and after all, it was the high school of people still living, so it is still in use.
