An older friend of mine was there. He was wounded, triaged into the "goner" tent, and 14 hours later, when things calmed and he was alive, they brought him back to the operating room and saved him. He passed about 6 years ago, and I still miss him.

I too have toured the battle cemetery on Okinawa, a very humbling experenis there were many locals there too, as for baseball there were lots of local kids playing the game.

Great battle! We did an Italian campaign staff raise for a week and that was one of the highlights!
