I have said this and I will say it again. Being a leader is much easier than in the corporate world. When the NCOs and I saw eye to eye on the standards of values, leadership, and core competencies of the soldiers and the unit, they supported me. There was loyalty and support.

Yes, being a leader/manager is much more difficult when you don’t have NCO’s. I can testify to that.

SFC (Join to see) - I really appreciated all the NCOs I worked with. They executed, enforced standards, took care of the soldiers. There is immense beauty in that process.

Or many are doing the work of a manager and getting paid the same as the coworkers who just clock in and clock out each day. Might as well have the salary with it?

Yes sir! That was the point of my original comment. Management is/was rough on all generations working it. Those of us who choose the path, in my opinion, do so because it's just "in us" for our own personal reason(s).

I read this story and it has valid points. Promotions are more difficult to obtain in 2020s with longer hours and mediocre raises. Today’s generation also wants to work in organizations with shared values along with desire for profit

I agree with you, but at the end of the day we conform to our organization and excel because we enjoy the work and/or we are driven to excellence and/or want to help others. Every generation has had difficulties to work through in the workplace, as I tell my grandchildren: Suck it up and drive on. They just smile at me now because they know what I mean when I hold 3 fingers up.
