South Carolina Senator Tim Scott said Sunday that he has heard from many of his Republican colleagues who are willing to support his efforts to craft a compromise on police reform. The Republican senator, who says he has experienced being racially profiled by police, is working with a bipartisan group of lawmakers to negotiate reform legislation.
"Significant numbers in my party have already said to me, 'We will go where you go on this issue,' as long as I can explain my position," Scott said on "Face the Nation." "And we're going to do that."

Didn’t SenatorScott have a previous police reform proposal that was discarded? Why the change in attitude in his favor?

His police reform bill from June 2020 was extremely weak compared to others. Mild incentives existed, but no mandates were involved (e.g. chokeholds, etc.). It also did not end qualified immunity that currently protects police from criminal misconduct charges while on-duty

LTC Eugene Chu - chokeholds banned unless the officer's life is in danger? isn't that what their service weapon is for? how is a chokehold going to keep an assailant from killing you? takes much longer to be effective. i know. maybe the officer won't be able to reach his pistol. then, fight for your life until assistance arrives
