I have read many historical novels by Jeff Shaara focusing on wars that America has participated in, and all have been excellent. However, I am going to make a special recommendation for his WWII series, four books beginning with The Rising Tide (The North Africa campaign). The remaining three are The Steel Wave (Operation Overlord), No Less Than Victory (), and The Final Storm (). I have read many volumes about WWII but none have treated General Montgomery as honestly, and it is refreshing to see. Monty's reputation was protected, even by American authors, I suppose, to avoid offending the British who desperately needed a hero of their own. It's time to stop coddling them and teach history properly

I remember a story about Montgomery verbally assaulting Eisenhower. Once Ike had had enough he told Montgomery, “Steady Monty, you can’t speak to me like that, I’m your boss”.

I really enjoyed the frozen hours about Korea. I wish more people studied and learned about the Korean War. After studying more on it it really gave me an extra sense of respect for a lot of the folks who were there. Had to have been miserable. Many of them were either folks who had spent years in battle in WWII and then went home to get on with their lives only to be forced back into service years later. The other half were brand new recruits with poor training and no battlefield experience.
