Everything costs -- is the ROI worth it -- at this time, no -- but it's not my call...

With a ROI one should look at all associated costs, that's where they start playing the shell game by not mentioning a lot of what's being affected. The biggest downfall of intermitted energy sources like wind and sun is that they rely on the electric grid to act as a battery so they are reliant on fossil fuels. The politically correct speak try to make everyone believe that wind and solar can completely replace existing energy sources. There is a place for wind and solar, but I personally don't believe they are the solution.

But, but is is green energy, just like they don't think about how much damage is being done to the environment to get the minerals like lithium etc out of the ground.

Some of the lithium mining I saw on the news last week was truly scary. OSMRE should have been on their case immediately.

Everything has a downside. And we don't make solar panels in the US to add to the problem

Most of the stuff used to make renewable energy today is from China. I can't see how that is good for us. Who was the secretary of state who when along with providing so many mineral rights to China?
